Exhibition Planning & Operation2024

I organized the graduation exhibition committee into working teams by discipline and planned and managed the exhibition using participation fees. As chair, I coordinated the organization and its participants and co-produced the catalog.

Planning and Management

I served as chair of the graduation exhibition committee for Konkuk University's Department of Architecture in 2024. I reorganized the previously informal committee into working teams by discipline and secured operating funds through participation fees.

The main tasks were defining roles and schedules and coordinating participants' needs. I was responsible for overall planning and coordination between teams, and co-produced the exhibition catalog with Yujin Ko.

Working Structure

Committee responsibilities redrawn from the 2024 operational plan and organizational structure

I established an operational plan and divided responsibilities into overall management, exhibition branding, exhibition space planning, and publicity. As committee chair, I reviewed the schedule, budget, and overall direction, and coordinated decision-making between teams.

Meetings provided a forum for sharing each team's progress and needs. We jointly reviewed issues affecting multiple teams and participants, including spatial arrangements, theme selection, the poster competition, and explanations of operating costs.

Participation and Funding

Participants were surveyed about the exhibition format, venue, publicity, and financial contributions. The aim was to reflect their exhibition requirements and the level of costs they were prepared to bear in the preparation process.

Participation fees funded the exhibition, and meeting agendas included explanations of costs and progress, along with questions and answers. This allowed exhibition preparations and participants' financial contributions to be discussed together.

Exhibition Layout

The exhibition space planning team reviewed the placement of panels and models, visitor circulation, lighting, and spatial arrangements. Alongside the display area for each project, we adjusted the spaces where visitors could pause to view work and listen to presentations.

The drawings and renderings are studies from the preparation stage. They are distinguished from photographs of the exhibition to document both the planned layout and its actual use.

The original exhibition layout records display positions and circulation between the main hall and smaller rooms. Korean labels identify exhibitors and studio groups. Their original names are preserved rather than assigning unverified English spellings.

Exhibition Theme

The exhibition theme, “Gak” (Angle), refers to the differences in participants' perspectives and architectural approaches. It established a direction for bringing individual projects together in a single exhibition while maintaining their independence.

Discussions of the theme and a poster competition developed the visual identity. The final posters combine monochrome collages of architectural images with typography to communicate the exhibition dates and venue.

Exhibition Record

The exhibition took place from September 10 to 27, 2024, in the ground-floor lobby of Konkuk University's Architecture Building. Panels and models were arranged alongside one another, with space for viewing projects, presenting them, and exchanging opinions.

The exhibition record focuses on the outcome of bringing multiple participants' work together in one exhibition, rather than on the design achievements of individual projects.

Exhibition view · A sequence of panels and models, with viewing spaces between them
Exhibition view · Visitors examining models and panels together
Exhibition view · A project presentation in front of its panel
Exhibition view · Pausing beside a model to document it

Catalog

Seyeong Choi and Yujin Ko co-produced a catalog documenting the exhibited projects.

My responsibilities for the graduation exhibition covered forming and managing the committee, coordinating participants and teams, and co-producing the catalog. This work involved bringing multiple participants' projects together in both an exhibition and a publication.
